Flashcards only, visible on the page

Google's technical rules for this feature are short and strict:

• Every question uses Flashcard. Mixing in other question types makes the page ineligible.
• Put the markup on the most detailed page. A flashcard set about photosynthesis gets it, not the Biology index page linking to 40 sets. Pages without questions shouldn't carry it.
• Questions must be visible. A set that lives only in a downloadable PDF or a data file doesn't count; the questions have to be on the page itself.

Content rules come on top. The page must contain education questions with answers that actually answer them, at least one pair, and it follows the same guidelines as Q&A pages.

Aligning a set to a subject and grade

educationalAlignment is recommended, and it is how Google matches flashcards to searches organized around curricula. Repeat it to give both a subject and a level: educationalSubject with a target such as Chemistry, and educationalLevel with a grade or a named standard.

Google cites Common Core State Standards, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), Virginia Standards of Learning, BC Performance Standards, Alberta Programs of Study, the Australian Curriculum, the Victorian Curriculum and the UK National Curriculum as examples. Use the standard's own naming where you can, so a teacher searching for a TEKS code finds cards aligned to it.

Flashcard sets on WordPress

Most WordPress quiz plugins build scored multiple-choice tests, which is the one format this feature excludes, so their built-in markup, if any, won't help here. Flashcard sets are easier to handle as a custom post type or a repeater field with question and answer pairs, rendered as visible cards on the page.

Generate the markup from the same fields and append it with Hydrogen SEO's hydrogen_seo_schemas filter:

If a flip-card design hides the answer until someone clicks, keep the answer text in the HTML so it matches the markup.

Accuracy is reviewed

Google says it runs quality and educational reviews on these pages, and if enough of your content is inaccurate, all or some of your Q&A pages can lose eligibility until you fix it. For user-built flashcard libraries, that makes moderation part of your SEO: a set with wrong answers can hurt other sets on the site. Validate a set's JSON-LD with the JSON-LD checker before scaling the template to thousands of pages.
