All in One SEO vs The SEO Framework: the heaviest and lightest, measured
These are the two ends of our benchmark. All in One SEO posted the highest cost in every cost category it entered (+53.5 ms, 22 queries per request); The SEO Framework posted the lowest PHP time and query count (+8.0 ms, 0 queries). For most sites The SEO Framework is the better technical choice. All in One SEO's case rests on its guided setup, polish and fuller default sitemap.
The figures come from our seven-plugin benchmark, free versions at defaults on one WordPress 7.1 install, one plugin at a time. We build Hydrogen SEO, which is neither.

Measured on one WordPress 7.1 install (PHP 8.2, MySQL 8.0, Twenty Twenty-Five, 40 posts), each plugin alone with default settings, against a no-plugin baseline. Bold marks the better number in each row. Full method: how we tested.
What the numbers mean
The cost gap is close to seven to one on PHP time, and the other rows agree. All in One SEO used +14.5 MB of memory against +2.0 MB, registered 100 hooks against 8, grew <head> by 6,668 bytes against 3,821, and ships 24.4 MB against 2.9 MB. It creates nine custom tables; The SEO Framework creates none. Autoloaded options grew by 14.6 KB against 4.2 KB.
In wp-admin the difference is dramatic. All in One SEO's dashboard was 511 KB, about four times bare WordPress, with 130 files (3,543 KB) loaded into the block editor. The SEO Framework's dashboard was 130.3 KB against a 129.8 KB baseline, and it loaded 77.6 KB into the editor, the lightest of all seven plugins.
On deactivation, The SEO Framework restored the baseline exactly. All in One SEO released none of its autoloaded options and left its nine tables.
Output is where All in One SEO earns something back, but less than you might expect. Its sitemap is fuller: 73 URLs including taxonomy archives, against The SEO Framework's flat 51 (posts and pages only). Neither included images, and both stamped lastmod on every URL. On schema, The SEO Framework printed more types in fewer bytes (9 types in 1,881 bytes against 8 in 4,544). On social tags it printed more too (10 Open Graph and 5 X against 6 and 3). Both generate meta descriptions.
The honest reason to choose All in One SEO is the experience: a guided setup, clear screens, many features in one place and a large product family. The SEO Framework is automation-first with little hand-holding and no AI features by design.
Choose All in One SEO if
