Rank Math gives you far more to configure and fuller social tags; The SEO Framework gives you more schema at a fraction of the cost and asks you to change very little.

Measured on one WordPress 7.1 install (PHP 8.2, MySQL 8.0, Twenty Twenty-Five, 40 posts), each plugin alone with default settings, against a no-plugin baseline. Bold marks the better number in each row. Full method: how we tested.
What the numbers mean
Hooks are the best single number for this pair. A hook is a point where a plugin attaches itself to WordPress, and the count is a rough measure of integration surface. The SEO Framework's 8 was the lowest in the field; Rank Math's 155 reflects its many modules. The rest of the cost table follows: +2.0 MB of memory against +8.5 MB, a 2.9 MB package against 15.1 MB, no custom tables against six. Autoloaded options grew by 4.2 KB against 11.6 KB, and on deactivation The SEO Framework restored the exact baseline while Rank Math left 11.0 KB behind.
In the editor The SEO Framework loaded 77.6 KB, the lightest we measured, against Rank Math's 1,792 KB. Dashboard HTML was 130.3 KB against 154.0 KB.
Output is closer than cost. The SEO Framework printed more schema (9 JSON-LD types in 1,881 bytes against 6 in 2,665). Rank Math printed more social tags (11 Open Graph and 8 X against 10 and 5). Both generate meta descriptions and canonicals, and both stamp lastmod on every sitemap URL. Neither included images at defaults. Rank Math's sitemap listed 59 URLs, omitting tag and author archives; The SEO Framework's flat sitemap listed 51, posts and pages only. If you want archives submitted, neither does it out of the box.
The deciding question is how you like to work. Rank Math rewards people who enjoy configuring things: it has many modules, a setup wizard that must be completed or skipped before it prints anything, and a generous free tier. The SEO Framework is built around sensible automatic defaults and a quiet interface, and it deliberately has no AI features.
Choose Rank Math if
