AI-assisted schema lets you describe your business or content in plain language and have Hydrogen SEO's AI draft the structured data for you. Instead of working out which JSON-LD fields a Local Business or Product needs, you write a sentence or two about what the page is, the AI proposes complete schema fields, and you review, adjust, and save. The output is the same server-rendered JSON-LD as hand-configured schema; the AI only changes how the fields get filled.

How it works

The flow is deliberately simple and always keeps you in the loop:

  1. Describe. In the schema section (on the Schema screen or in a post's SEO Settings sheet), use the AI option and describe what you need in plain language: "We're a family-run bakery in Leeds, open Tuesday to Saturday 8am to 4pm, phone 0113 496 0000."
  2. Draft. The AI turns that description into structured data: the right schema type with its fields filled in.
  3. Review. Every proposed field is shown to you before anything is committed. Check names, numbers, hours, and spellings against reality.
  4. Save. Once you are happy, save. Hydrogen SEO renders the JSON-LD server-side with the page, exactly as it does for manually configured schema.

Nothing is published without your review. AI drafts a starting point; you remain the editor of record.

You can also drive this conversationally through the Hydrogen AI agent: tell it "add FAQ schema to this page" or "set up Local Business schema for my site" and it will work through the same review-then-save flow, showing every change before it lands. The agent's safeguards are described in AI abilities and safety.

What you need

AI-assisted schema is one of Hydrogen SEO's AI features, which means two prerequisites:

  • A connected account. AI features require a free hydrogenseo.com account connected to your plugin. Signup is free at /signup, and the connection steps are in connect your account. Every non-AI feature, including manual schema configuration, works with no account at all.
  • Credits. AI generation draws on credits. New accounts get free credits on signup, and paid plans on /pricing cover heavier use. If your credits run out, only AI generation pauses; your existing schema keeps rendering and everything else in the plugin keeps working. Details are in credits and billing.

Where AI-assisted schema shines

  • Local Business setup. Business details (address, hours, phone, geo) are the classic case: describe the business once and get correctly typed fields back, as covered in Local Business schema.
  • Unfamiliar types. If you don't know what an Event or Course schema expects, a plain-language description gets you a correctly shaped draft faster than reading the spec.
  • First drafts at scale. Let AI rough in the fields, then spend your time reviewing rather than transcribing.

For pages where the values should track the content automatically, remember that schema fields also support smart tags: type @ to insert variables like %title% or %author%. AI drafting and smart tags are complementary, not competing.

Always validate after

Treat every AI draft the way you would treat a junior colleague's work: useful, fast, and in need of a check. After saving:

  1. Open the live page URL.
  2. Run it through the Google Rich Results Test and the Schema.org validator, following the rich results validation guide.
  3. Fix any errors, re-save, and re-test.

Validation matters doubly here because AI drafts are only as accurate as your description. If you said "open weekdays" and meant "closed Wednesdays," only your review and a look at the final markup will catch it. Hydrogen SEO is in Beta, which is one more reason the validate step is not optional.

FAQ

Do I need a paid plan to use AI-assisted schema?

No. A free hydrogenseo.com account includes free credits on signup, which is enough to try AI schema drafting. Paid plans exist for heavier ongoing use; see /pricing.

What happens to my schema if I run out of credits?

Nothing. Schema that has already been saved keeps rendering server-side exactly as before. Running out of credits only pauses new AI generation; no existing output breaks.

Can the AI change my schema without asking?

No. AI drafting always shows you the proposed fields for review before saving. The Hydrogen AI agent is policy-driven too: by default it asks before anything destructive, can be set to ask before every write, and shows every change it makes. See AI abilities and safety.

Is AI-generated schema good enough for Google?

The structure will be valid JSON-LD, but Google evaluates whether the content of the markup matches your page and reality. Review the draft, correct anything wrong, and confirm with the Rich Results Test; that combination is what makes it good enough.
